Living in Community
We are thrilled to have a vibrant and inclusive community of Oilers living on campus. We want to share some important reminders for living in our campus community. Please read on to learn more about how to help all Oilers THRIVE!
Roommates, Housemates and Suitemates don’t need to be friends, but they do need to coexist respectfully.
-
Remember to treat others the way that you would like to be treated.
-
Communicate concerns respectfully, directly with the person, rather than discussing with others.
-
Conversations about certain topics can be challenging and it helps to approach them with care.
-
Some residents find roommate contracts to be helpful. A roommate contract is a mutually agreed upon list of boundaries. Your RA can help set up a roommate contract.
-
Residents are responsible for taking their own trash to the dumpsters on a regular basis.
-
Keep common spaces clean for all to enjoy.
-
Empty beds can be assigned at any time.
Students who are unhappy with their room, roommate or housemate should talk to their RA.
-
RAs can help with mediation and roommate agreements.
-
There is a housing freeze in effect for the first 2 weeks of the semester, then students are welcome to move into available rooms.
-
Students who wish to move should contact their RA to find a new room, be introduced to potential roommates/housemates or share their desired room change request.
-
RAs will confirm room availability and ensure that everyone involved agrees to the requested change.
-
RAs will submit a room change request and inform the student/s of the status.
-
Once approved, residents have 48 hours to complete their move and return their old keys to their RA.
-
Remember that different room types often have different rates and meal plan requirements. Rates can be found here - https://www.findlay.edu/offices/business-affairs/student-accounts/housing-and-food-rates
